I'm afraid that dot dot dot What if you finish that sentence five times and just saw what was coming up? And then maybe ended with I'm most afraid that dot dot dot?

How are entrepreneurs like us daring bravely to build a stage? Ditch the sweat pants and step up to the mic? How do we create our own transformative events? So we can get our message out into the world in a bigger way. It's not only profitable, but it's actually something we can be proud of.

That's the question. And the answers are inside this podcast. My name is Sarah Fejfar. Welcome to greenroom Central.

Last year, in about q4, I realized something that was holding me back. And it was fear. I didn't realize how many places where I was stopping myself from taking an action or taking an action that was intentionally playing small, if you will, and all out of fear. As I made that realization, I started trying to uncover where were all the places in my life where I was allowing fear to cause me to play small and kind of wad. And just the weirdest things once you notice something about your behavior, and then start kind of allowing yourself to peel back the layers of the onion.
Sarah Fejfar 1:31
It's kind of crazy, how many places fear can stop you or influence the level in which you you go. And so I decided for 2023 that my word of the year would be fearless. I think two other words, too. But the main one is fearless. And I thought today that it would be fun to have a conversation about how we can use journaling to help us uncover white, what might be holding us back from action towards that event dream. I was recently at a virtual event. And I was backstage talking with some of the presenters and came across one presenter who was powerhouse.
Sarah Fejfar 2:19
I was super excited to hear this person speak. And they disclosed to me that they were feeling nervous and a little bit afraid. And so I asked, Well, what do you think it is? And they said, Well, I'm afraid because I have a slide deck, and I'm talking and and so usually is the case is someone is nervous about advancing their slides at the same time as speaking it's like, you know, it's like chewing gum and walking at the same time. It's hard, right? And so I asked, Is it because you're nervous about advancing your slides? Because I'm, you know, happy to help with that.
Sarah Fejfar 3:04
And they said, Oh, no, not at all. I'm really experiencing that. And I said, Well, what is it? They said, well, sharing screen, I've, I haven't done it before, and in this way. And I said okay, and so then we just took it really easy. And I talked this person through exactly how it was gonna work. And we practiced, and they were an absolute Rockstar knocked it out of the park, hugely valuable presentation, amazing delivery. And you would never know that they were afraid of using their slide deck because of they didn't know how to share it, I want to tell you that story.
Sarah Fejfar 3:45
Because I think that there might be little things like that all along the way of planning your first or your next event that could stop you in your tracks. I think it's helpful to uncover them as early along in the process of planning your event or even dreaming about your event. So that we can just address them and be on our way. Right. And so I thought well, what if I gave you five journaling prompts today that you could use you could just take 15 minutes today to sit down and write about what might be holding you back.
Sarah Fejfar 4:28
And the first one is I love this one. I'm afraid that dot dot dot What if you finish that sentence five times and just saw what was coming up and then maybe ended with I'm most afraid that dot dot dot. And I think we might be surprised by what comes up and uncover the simple thing. Like I just need to get some training on how Share Screen works on Zoom. Right? It might be As simple as that, the second journal prompt I have for you is to notice triggers have you noticed a place where you get triggered or specific thing or place or activity or like moment within an event or with a specific team member, during the planning process that's triggering you?
Sarah Fejfar 5:28
What might it be? I know some people have, call it an allergy, if you will, to details. And so if their team is talking about the details, they're like, this is not the room for me, you know, my job is to show up on stage with a clear head and laser focus on what the message the content is that I'm going to be delivering. And if I am sitting here in the same room, as you all who are planning and talking about stuff that went wrong, and how you're fixing it, or this guest who had a question about whatever that kind of stuff can trigger a fear that it isn't going well that impact your ability to deliver.
Sarah Fejfar 6:27
So know what it is for you. And I think this activity of journaling on triggers might really help. So then the third thing I would ask you to journal about is what would it mean to you, to face your fears about your event? What would it mean to you to face those fears? And just write whatever comes up. The fourth thing I'd ask you to journal about is, where are you feeling it? Like? Are you feeling a sense of chest tightening? Is it giving you a headache? Is it constricting your throat? Where are you feeling that fear? The fifth journal prompt I have for you is what does this fear trying to do? Is it trying to keep you safe? And if so, from what?
Sarah Fejfar 7:36
And I think that if you just took 15 minutes today, and answered some or all of those questions, I think it might really serve you so that you can uncover any of the little tiny things that are just bugging you, and allow you to move more swiftly towards this event dream that's on your heart. I hope that was helpful. Go ahead and take that 15 minutes just for you today and do the journaling and then put it in the wind column for the day that you took your ears you took time for yourself and ended that.
